Flush an index

ElasticsearchIndex Lifecycle

Command

POST /customer/_flush

What it does

Performs a Lucene commit: durably writes in-memory indexing data to disk as segments and trims translog entries that are no longer needed.

When to use it

To shrink the translog before maintenance or a restart.

Caution

Usually done automatically; a manual flush causes a slight increase in IO.
