ERR Background save already in progress: Background save already in progress

Redis

What does it mean?

You tried to start a new background save (BGSAVE) or AOF rewrite, but a background save is already in progress. Redis does not allow a second save process at the same time.

Why does it happen?

A new BGSAVE/BGREWRITEAOF triggered before the previous one completed; monitoring scripts or the application repeatedly calling BGSAVE while fork/save takes a long time on a large dataset. A slow disk or a large RDB file prolongs the process.

How to fix it

Wait for the running save to finish; check its status with the rdb_bgsave_in_progress and aof_rewrite_in_progress fields in INFO persistence and the LASTSAVE timestamp. Make application/automation logic conditional so it does not trigger a new BGSAVE before the previous save finishes. If saves take too long, investigate disk speed and RDB size.
