1227: Access denied; you need (at least one of) the PRIVILEGE

MySQL

What does it mean?

The user lacks the privilege required for the attempted operation. The operation requires a right beyond the permissions granted to the account.

Why does it happen?

A missing administrative privilege such as SUPER, PROCESS, RELOAD or CREATE USER; the permission needed to read a global view/table not granted; a specific operation (SET GLOBAL, binlog access) requiring elevated privileges.

How to fix it

View current privileges: SHOW GRANTS FOR CURRENT_USER(); Grant the required permission with a privileged account: GRANT PROCESS ON *.* TO 'app_user'@'host'; (GRANT takes effect immediately; FLUSH PRIVILEGES is not needed). Where possible, use dynamic privileges (e.g. SYSTEM_VARIABLES_ADMIN) instead of SUPER. Follow the principle of least privilege.
