parsing_exception: Failed to parse the search request / query DSL
ElasticsearchWhat does it mean?
The submitted query body (query DSL) could not be parsed. The query could not run because the request JSON structure or query syntax does not match the format Elasticsearch expects.
Why does it happen?
Invalid JSON, misplaced/unknown query keys, a query type (e.g. bool, range) used with the wrong structure, a field name removed/changed between versions, or an extra/missing bracket. Common with hand-written or dynamically built queries.
How to fix it
Check the query body using the line/position hint in the error message; verify the JSON is valid. Compare the query DSL structure with the official reference (bool/must/filter placement, etc.). Update syntax removed in version upgrades. Simplify the query incrementally to isolate the faulty part; use the client library's query builder where possible.
