Add a node to the cluster

Command

GET /_cat/nodes?v

What it does

Starting the new node with the same cluster.name and correct discovery.seed_hosts in elasticsearch.yml is enough; this command verifies that the node has joined.

When to use it

To verify membership when adding a new node to the cluster.

Caution

In 7.0+ there is no minimum_master_nodes; the voting configuration is managed automatically. Add and remove master-eligible nodes one at a time, and never remove half or more of them at once; when permanently removing more than one master-eligible node, first use POST _cluster/voting_config_exclusions?node_names=....
