44000: with_check_option_violation

PostgreSQL

What does it mean?

An INSERT/UPDATE through a view defined WITH CHECK OPTION was rejected because the resulting row no longer satisfies the view's WHERE condition. The view prevents writing rows that would fall outside its own filter.

Why does it happen?

An updatable view is defined WITH CHECK OPTION and the write moves the row outside the view's defining condition (e.g. setting a row to 'inactive' while the view filters status='active'). A similar check can fire in row-level security (RLS) policies.

How to fix it

Make sure the written values satisfy the view's WHERE condition, or perform the operation directly on the base table instead of the view (if privileges allow). If the business rule allows the row to leave the filter, redefine the view without WITH CHECK OPTION. For RLS, review the policy's WITH CHECK expression.
