ORA-01536: space quota exceeded for tablespace

Oracle

What does it mean?

The user's space quota on the specified tablespace is exhausted. Even if the tablespace has free space, new space cannot be allocated because the limit granted to the user has been exceeded.

Why does it happen?

The user has a limited quota (not UNLIMITED); the quota filled up with data growth; an excessive load into a table/index; writing to the wrong tablespace; segments growing faster than expected.

How to fix it

Increase the user's quota: ALTER USER app_user QUOTA UNLIMITED ON tablespace_name; or give a specific value: QUOTA 500M ON users. See current usage: SELECT * FROM dba_ts_quotas WHERE username = 'APP_USER'. Archive/purge unnecessarily large segments or move objects to an appropriate tablespace.
