ORA-01017: Invalid username/password; logon denied
OracleWhat does it mean?
Logon was denied because the username or password supplied when connecting to the database is incorrect.
Why does it happen?
Wrong password, wrong username, the case-sensitive password setting (SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON) differing from what is expected, a changed password, or stale credentials in the application connection string.
How to fix it
Verify the username and password. If necessary, reset the password as DBA: ALTER USER app_user IDENTIFIED BY new_password. Check that the user exists and is not locked: SELECT username, account_status FROM dba_users. With 12c+ password hash versions, 11g clients may have trouble connecting; review the SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION_SERVER setting.
