11600: InterruptedAtShutdown (error code 11600)

MongoDB

What does it mean?

The operation was interrupted because the server began shutting down. The in-flight operation could not complete because the mongod process was stopping.

Why does it happen?

A restart/shutdown of mongod, shutdown during a replica set primary stepdown, planned maintenance, a crash, or the process being killed by the OOM killer.

How to fix it

Wait for the server to come back up and retry the operation. In the application, catch transient errors and retry automatically; enable retryable writes. For unexpected shutdowns, review the mongod logs and system logs (OOM, crash). Use a replica set for high availability.
